Now, the Black Cats will travel to play Peterborough United on Easter Monday in a huge top-of-the-table promotion clash.

Sunderland are just two points behind second-placed Posh and could move into the automatic promotion spots should they get the win.

And that run has continued into April with Sunderland coming from behind to dispatch Oxford United at the Stadium of Light with goals from Lynden Gooch, Aiden McGeady and Max Power.

Oxford United midfielder fumes in deleted Tweet

Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan has fumed at Trevor Kettle’s decision to allow Sunderland to take a free-kick for their second goal.

Brannagan was on his way to his feet before flopping to the ground in an attempt to slow play down.

The referee, however, wasn’t having any of it and Sunderland scored as Gooch teed up McGeady for the Black Cats’ second goal of the afternoon.

Following the game, Brannagan tweeted: “Please tell me how is not stopped. Shambles!!!!”

The comment was online for a matter of minutes before it was swiftly deleted by the Oxford player.

Sunderland’s budget if they promoted to the Championship revealed

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will hand Sunderland a transfer budget of £60million if they achieve promotion this season.

According to weekend reports, majority shareholder Louis-Dreyfus is already making preparations for if the side are promoted this term.

The Sun on Sunday claim that the chairman has set aside £60million to spend on new faces in the Championship – with the report stating he is ‘itching’ to get started in the transfer market.

Paul Cook eyeing summer reinforcements at Ipswich Town

Paul Cook is reportedly keen to be reunited with Lee Evans at Ipswich Town in the summer.

The midfielder had a couple of loan spells under Cook's management at Wigan Athletic before making the move permanent in January 2019.

His contract with the Latics is due to expire at the end of the season.

And, according to TWTD, the situation has alerted Cook, who could make a summer move.

Newcastle United eye starlet from Sunderland’s League One rivals

Newcastle United are looking to pip Celtic to the signing of Kyle Joseph from Wigan Athletic.

That’s according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The youngster is out of contract at the end of the season and Steve Bruce’s side are hoping to win the race for his signature.

Joseph, 19m was the subject of a rejected bid by Barnsley in January, whilst it has also been suggested that League One rivals Blackpool were interested.

Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur were also credited with an interest during the January transfer window.

Promotion rivals Blackpool quash injury fears over defender

Neil Critchley has quashed fears that Blackpool defender Daniel Gretarsson has picked up another injury.

“Daniel is fine,” Critchley said.

“He was actually unwell leading into the game, he wasn’t feeling well so he hadn’t eaten a lot.

“It was more of a case that he was lacking energy in the final 20 minutes more than anything.”
