As reported by the Echo earlier this week, Sunderland are interested in a move for former Everton left-back Luke Garbutt.

And reports in East Anglia have suggested that Sunderland are now the front-runners for Garbutt’s signature – with the financial package on offer, coupled with the close proximity of Wearside to his hometown of Harrogate, proving appealing.
The Echo understands that while Garbutt is a target for Sunderland, he is far from a done deal.
Ipswich Town chief makes transfer admission
Ipswich owner Marcus Evans has confirmed that his club voted against the salary cap proposals implemented in League One – and believes they will restrict the club’s transfer reinvestment ‘considerably’.

Hide AdSpeaking to Ipswich’s website, Evans said: “I have said before that I think football needs to press the re-set button in terms of some of the financial aspects of the game but we were against the introduction of the salary cap in this format at this stage.
"It restricts our reinvestment considerably. However a decision has been made by the majority of clubs. We accept it and will deal with it going forward.
"All clubs are in the same boat so wages are going to be facing a downward pressure. It will take a little time for agents and players to realise that clubs just can’t pay more and start to accept the reality of these new levels.”
An alternative point of view…
Lincoln City chairman Clive Nates believes the new salary cap regulations will prove to be a ‘massive improvement’.

"However, it’s a massive improvement on SCMP which is just not fit for purpose.”
