Sky Sports reported earlier this week that several Championship clubs, including Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Nottingham Forest are interested in the frontman, who will be out of contract in June.

It’s since been claimed that Cardiff are leading the chase to sign Wyke on a free transfer, with Football League World claiming Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy is looking to cover his squad should they lose top scorer Kieffer Moore.

Former defender expands academy

Elsewhere, former Sunderland defender Pascal Chimbonda is set to open a football academy in Sunderland.

The Frenchman has already launched his PC39 Academy in Manchester and is set to do the same in the North East.

The academy will offer full-time football and education courses for students aged 19 and over.

Northampton attacker impresses on trial

Finally, Sunderland are reportedly working on a deal to sign attacking midfielder Tom Scott following an impressive trial at the Academy of Light.

The 18-year-old is on a scholarship deal at League One club Northampton and has been part of The Cobblers’ under-18s side.

According to Football Insider, Sunderland are working on a deal to sign Scott so he can link up with the Black Cats’ under-23 squad next season.
