Sunderland came out the traps quicker in the second half and took the lead when Olivia Watt turned the ball into her own net. However, Boro again equalised when Emily Scarr got on the end of a deep free-kick.

The hosts couldn’t be kept down however, and the goal scoring sensation Bridget Galloway netted the winner for the Wearsiders’ with 20 minutes left on the clock.

A frantic first half saw the two sides share four goals, the first of which was deservedly scored by Boro after Dobson followed up her initial strike which was tipped onto the bar by Moan and forced the ball home.

Despite struggling against the wind for much of the half, Sunderland were level on 24 minutes after Emma Foster brought down Maria Farugia in the penalty area and Bridget Galloway fired the spot kick into the roof of the net to equalise for the Black Cats.

However, the Wearsiders’ enjoyed their lead for just two minutes before a Tyler Dobbs corner evaded everyone and ended up in the back of the net.

Sunderland made a promising start to the second half and took the lead after a teasing ball from Louise Griffiths was sliced into the bottom corner of her own goal by Olivia Watt on 51 minutes.

The Teessiders levelled again through Emily Scarr who lost her marker and headed home from close range.
