First-half thoughts from the Stadium of Light

Half-Time: Sunderland 1 Coventry 0

The hosts are applauded off at the break.

Another counter attack from Sunderland as Pritchard did well to delay the counter attack and allow Clarke to get forward on the left.

The latter’s cross hit Hyam in the box and there were appeals for handball, yet nothing was given.

Sunderland dropped even deeper and were almost made to pay there.

Panzo stepped out from the back and fired a powerful effort at goal which Patterson tipped onto the bar.

Godden then headed the rebound off target.

Moments later Coventry went forward again as Godden set up Gyokeres who was tackled in the box by Batth.

32’ Coventry seeing more of the ball

Coventry are just starting to control the tempo of the match, yet most of their possession has been in their own half.

They did manage to attack down the left there but Bidwell’s cross was palmed away by Patterson.

‘Goochhhh’,’ chant the home fans after another cross from the right from Sunderland’s wing-back.

He has caused problems on the right so far.

At the other end the ball was played forward to Gyokeres who tried to take on Batth before firing a shot way off target.

Coventry had just started to have a sustained spell of possession but Sunderland almost caught them on the counter attack there.

Evans started the move before playing the ball to Pritchard, whose cross from the right found Clarke.

The latter’s shot was straight at the keeper who managed to repel the effort.

First yellow card of the match as Hamer brings down Embleton near the centre circle.

Embleton and Pritchard have caused problems looking to take the ball on the half turn in midfield.

16’ Free-kick hits the wall

That was the best chance for Coventry so far after Ballard brought down Gyokeres on the edge of the box.

Hamer’s free-kick hit the wall.
