Sunderland’s preparations for the 2024/25 campaign are officially underway.
The players reported back for pre-season testing on Friday and began their training programme today, which was also Régis Le Bris’ first day officially in charge of the Black Cats. Sunderland will now have a solid two-week training block before the squad splits for friendlies against Gateshead and South Shields, with the pre-season tour of Spain to follow. Here, we run through the state of play with every player currently in Le Bris’ senior squad and make a summer transfer window prediction for each and every one...

13. Niall Huggins
Will be out for the rest of the year with a major knee injury. Will hope to be fit again towards the end of the season in a bid to recapture his brilliant form from the start of the 203/24 campaign. | Frank Reid Photo: Frank Reid

14. Aji Alese
Signed a new deal shortly before making a successful and highly encouraging return from injury towards the end of last season. Fully fit to start pre season as he bids to put that injury frustration behind him and build on the immense promise he's shown in his first two years at the club. | Frank Reid Photo: Frank Reid

15. Dennis Cirkin
Sunderland are confident that Cirkin will be fit to start the campaign as, like Alese, he bids to put a frustrating season due to injury behind him. Has the potential to be one of the very best left backs in the league, and will also give Le Bris an excellent option on the left of a back three at times. Just needs a bit of luck. Two years left to run on his deal but all parties likely to want to focus on him getting a run in the team before considering their next steps. | Frank Reid Photo: Frank Reid

16. Joe Anderson
Returning from a successful loan at Shrewsbury Town where he played pretty regularly and gained some very valuable experience of senior football. Looks unlikely to break through this season and so there has to be a chance of a permanent exit. If not, another loan would allow all parties to make a decision next summer when he enters the final year of his deal. | Getty Images Photo: Getty Images
