‘He could be the one’ - Stoke City fans react to news of Alex Neil’s impending arrival

Stoke City fans have reacted to the news that Alex Neil is set to be appointed as their new manager.

Sunderland fans have endured a turbulent afternoon after it was reported that Alex Neil is set to join Stoke City.

Former Potters boss Michael O’Neill was sacked following their defeat at the Stadium of Light last weekend and they are now set to replace him with the Scot.

Neil looked very comfortable with the Black Cats following their promotion to the Championship and it comes as a shock to many that he would rather join Stoke - who finished last season in 14th place.

However, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has claimed that Neil’s departure was down to the Wearside club failing to back him in the transfer market.

The news has left supporters full of anger and frustration, while Stoke City fans’ opinions are divided on the move.

Here is how the Potters faithful reacted on social media...

@samevans1506 - “Dreadful appointment done on the cheap as usual.”

• @Mylescapper - “I think he could be the one.”

• @DaveLowton7 - “Another sideways step I’m afraid. This doesn’t inspire me at all.”

• Jonathan Walters (Former Stoke striker) - “If Stoke can get Alex Neil over the line it will be a major coup. His teams were always difficult to play against. Premier League experience, promotions on the CV and a very good man manager.”

• @Danblock22 - “Great work by the board, which I’m sure won’t get praised enough.”

• @bayley_trevor - “It leaves me feeling totally underwhelmed. Hope it works but feels like more of the same.”

• @azz_scfc - “I’m happy with him.”

• @Tom51153206 - “Would be decent but would prefer Dyche.”

• @JollyRoger1710 - “Won’t get a lot of backing with us either but potentially we do have a top 6 side to work with. Just needs to get the best out of them.”

• @eddiejettyboy - “Not sure why he would want to leave Sunderland? He was sacked by Preston. Think we would be better with Dyche.”

• @davidkirkham8 - “Linked with him after Jones was sacked he said no! Always has a pop at Stoke when we play them, don’t think he’s a fan.”
