The Black Cats chief is working hard behind the scenes to strengthen Jack Ross' squad, while also bring down the wage bill by getting some high earners off the books.

So far, Alim Ozturk, Chris Maguire and Jon McLaughlin have arrived at the Stadium of Light, with Jason Steele, Paddy McNair and Jack Rodwell leaving the club, along with John O'Shea, Billy Jones, Kazenga LuaLua and Marc Wilson, whose contracts have expired.

LIVE: Sunderland transfer latest as Cats close in on fourth summer signingThose departures have helped free up money for more incomings, but some supporters have shown frustration after striker Lyle Taylor opted to sty in London and join Charlton rather than move to Wearside.

Donald says Sunderland are close to announcing a couple of new signings, however.

Replying to a fan on Twitter who said that Donald had claimed there would be five or six new signings, but only three had arrived, the Sunderland owner said: "It's actually 4/5 just not announced yet.

"I can't make a lad move his family if he doesn't want btw. If doing the right deal for the club means I hope to sign 6 and end up with 4 then so be it."
