Lee Johnson’s side are 10th in League One and three points off the top six after 19 league games this campaign.

We asked fans on our Sunderland Echo Facebook page if they have confidence that Sunderland will win promotion this season – here are some of the responses:

Barry Marshall said: Same as the first season in League 1...too many draws. Assuming we get through the season properly, play-offs at very best.

Trevor Coxon added: No. Too much to do and not enough tools to do it.

Ian Porter commented: Being realistic, we've got a limited chance of reaching the play-offs. We're missing O’Nien & Hume badly, but most opportunities come to nothing. A lot is hanging on new signings, but our hands are tied by the new salary limits, so we must sell as well.

Geoffrey Arnott replied: Yes. The improvement in playing style is there for everyone to see. Just need to turn draws into wins

Jason Black disagreed: No fault of Lee Johnson but this current squad isn’t good enough! It may contain quality but there’s very little consistency within them. A large chunk of the squad is out of contract in the summer, the rebuild needs to start now to give us a chance of going up next season

Anthony Evans posted: Watched it on Saturday night and it was awful..no skill no pace. Set-pieces were embarrassing, you could plainly see why we haven't won a home game in ages and I can't see Sky ever wanting to comeback to cover us

John Beason answered: Let's face it we support a very mediocre team. I am confident however that at last we seem to have a head coach that knows what he's doing. Yet to prove himself of course. It's a difficult ask to expect promotion this season but with new owners and a better squad the future is brighter.

Les Jeary responded: No. We simply don't create enough chances.

Ian Mcdonald agreed: Don't have confidence that we are gonna make the playoffs
