'Shocking', 'Absolute joke' - Sunderland fans fume at late 2-2 draw vs Gillingham
Sunderland were denied all three points by a late Gillingham strike in a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon – and fans were quick to react on social media.
The Black Cats took an early lead courtesy of a strike from Aiden McGeady, but were pegged back partway through the first half thanks to a strike from Alex MacDonald.
Grant Leadbitter then restored their advantage shortly before the interval, bundling home from close range after having a penalty initially saved by Gills keeper Jack Bonham.
But he visitors pushed the Wearsiders all the way at the Stadium of Light, and hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions before Jordan Graham found an equaliser in stoppage time.
The result means that Sunderland move up to sixth in League One, having missed out on the opportunity to move up to fifth.
