The Black Cats are now without a win in four games, a worrying run of form as the season reaches a climax.
Phil Smith has dished out his SAFC player ratings from the game, which saw Sunderland well beaten and off the pace throughout. Striker Kyle Lafferty was subbed at half-time.

9. Chris Maguire.
Barely had a meaningful touch in the opposition half in what was his quietest game since Sunderland’s turnaround just before new year. 5 | JPIMedia Resell Photo: Frank Reid
10. Antoine Semenyo
Sunderland’s brightest attacker but in truth, that counted for little. Some promising runs but not much end product and guilty of giving the ball away on occasions. 5 | JPIMedia Photo: FRANK REID 2020
11. Kyle Lafferty.
Started the game brightly, winning plenty when his side just couldn’t get going. His effectiveness waned as the half developed and he was taken off at the break having picked up a yellow and got himself in something of a running battle with Cian Harries that was drawing too much attention from the referee. 5 | JPIMedia Resell Photo: Frank Reid
12. Lynden Gooch.
Came on with Sunderland searching for an equaliser, but could do little as they fell further behind with minutes. 5 | JPIMedia Resell Photo: Frank Reid
