Grant Leadbiiter’s stunning strike just before half-time looked to be enough for the Black Cats, before Fejiri Okenabirhie’s late strike earned the hosts a point.
So who were the star men, and who still has work to do? Scroll down and click through the pages as our chief football writer, Phil Smith, dishes out his merit marks from the 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium:
5. Luke O'Nien
His energy is so important to the team and is much better served in the wing back role. Particularly important in establishing his side’s dominance in the first half. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
6. Denver Hume
Got into some excellent attacking positions and probably didn’t make the most of them, with a number of crosses not finding their target. Doncaster got some joy down the left as the game developed, and it proved costly as Halliday burst into the box and played the cross for the equaliser. 5 Photo: Frank Reid
7. Denver Hume
A really effective display. There may not been a great deal in the way of eye-catching contributions on the ball, but his simple approach was effective and his pressing/energy was excellent from first minute to last. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
8. Grant Leadbitter
Controlled the first half and scored what will surely be the goal of the season. A stunning, stunning strike that lit up the empty stadium. A wonderful moment. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
