Sunderland have been knocked out of the FA Cup at the first round stage.

Stags striker Rhys Oates scored the only goal of the game after six minutes, capitalising on an error from Sunderland goalkeeper Lee Burge.

Lee Johnson made four substitutions at half-time, yet his side still struggled to create chances as their League Two opponents progressed to the next round.

15’ Dajaku heads over

Sunderland are starting to find space between the lines, particularly through Embleton.

The playmaker found space in a central position before releasing Cirkin on the left, whose cross was headed over by Dajaku at the back post.

12’ Mansfield pressing high

Just like Sunderland’s recent league opponents Mansfield have looked to press high up the pitch in the early exchanges.

The hosts managed to beat the press there and found space on the edge of the box but O’Brien’s effort was saved.

It’s a terrible start for Sunderland.

Burge has looked nervy with the ball at his feet so far and his pass hit Charsley as the hosts looked to play out from the back.

The ball fell for Oatess who converted into an empty net.

1-0 Mansfield.
