Pressure is mounting on manager Phil Parkinson, with the 1-1 draw at Highbury meaning the Black Cats now haven’t tasted victory in any competition since the 2-1 win over Ipswich Town on November 3.

And Wyke says the dressing room understand the frustrations of supporters following their recent results – but insists the side are doing ‘everything they can’ to claim three points.

“We're as frustrated as anyone and we just want to put it right,” said the striker.

"We're working hard every day to put it right and if we keep playing like we are, especially in the first half at Fleetwood, we'll end up winning more games than we lose.

“We're desperate to win. We are working hard and we have got a good bunch of lads and we're doing everything we can to get the points that we need.”

One positive from the trip to Fleetwood was Wyke’s return to the scoresheet, as he took his tally for the season to eight in all competitions.

“I'm obviously happy to score goals, as any striker would be,” admitted the forward.

"It's just a shame we didn't get the three points to go.

“I think it's been two leagues games now without scoring, so it's nice to get back on the scoresheet again.”

And while Wyke’s brave header ultimately wasn’t enough to seal victory in the North West, he believes the point at Fleetwood could yet prove a crucial one given the strength of Joey Barton’s squad – even if Sunderland are frustrated with the result in the here and now

“They've got some great players, like you see with the bench and what they can bring on,” he said.

"They've got a great squad and a good management team and I think they'll be right up there come the end of the season.

“Hopefully we look back at this and think it's a good point. Obviously we're frustrated at the minute but hopefully we can look back at the end of the season and think it's a good one.”
