The Black Cats need reinforcements in several positions following seven first-team players departing this summer.
Jordan Jones has gone back to Rangers whilst the club didn’t offer new deals to Max Power, Remi Matthews, Josh Scowen, Chris Maguire, Grant Leadbitter and Dylan McFadzean.
But which youth players could the Wearsiders target from the Premier League 2? Here, we take a look:
5. Liam Delap
The son of former Sunderland man Rory Delap, Manchester City striker Liam Delap is one of the most exciting prospects at the club and won the Premier League 2's Player of the Season award last campaign. But the 18-year-old striker is yet to experience regular first-team football. Could the Black Cats persuade him to come to Wearside on loan? He may have suitors higher up the pyramid.

6. Bobby Duncan
A cousin of Steven Gerrard, striker Bobby Duncan has been linked to a move to Wearside previously. The former Liverpool man, however, has failed to make much of an impact at Derby County and at 19-years-old, probably needs to start playing regular first-team football soon.

7. Haydon Roberts
The highly-rated Brighton & Hover Albion defender spent time on loan at Rochdale last season and could prove to be a realistic target for Lee Johnson as Sunderland look to strengthen.

8. Adam Lewis
Left-back Adam Lewis has third-tier experience having joined League One side Plymouth Argyle on loan during last season and could prove an interesting option for Sunderland with the Black Cats lacking depth in that position.
