Scroll down and click through the pages to see how our chief Sunderland AFC writer, Phil Smith, rated the individual performances on Wearside:
9. Chris Maguire - 9
His first and third goals were wonderfully taken. Touch of fortune about the second but he deserved it, his quality in front of goal matched by an excellent work-rate that will delighted his manager. 9 Photo: Ian Horrocks
10. Aiden McGeady - 6
Part of a fluid frontline that was a constant threat and caused real problems. Not directly involved in any of the goals but played his part in a good showing. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
11. Charlie Wyke - 8
A real focal point for his forward line to play off. A threat in the air and brought others into play with ball at feet, too. Should have got himself on the scoresheet when played in on goal by McGeady but playing really well at the moment. 8 Photo: Frank Reid
12. Will Grigg - 6
Came very close to his first goal of the season after doing superbly to gather Hume’s ball forward. Dragged his effort just wide but his performances off the bench are consistently good, now. Linking up well and running the channels. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
