After a cagey first half and a red card to Abu Ogogo, the Black Cats sezied the initiative, as goals from Lynden Gooch, Charlie Wyke and Luke O’Nien ensured the side keep pace with the top two in League One.
But who were the standout performers on Wearside? Scroll down and click through the pages to see how Phil Smith rated the displays against the Gas:
9. Chris Maguire
The quality of his delivery was excellent throughout the contest and his effort drew applause from all round the ground. Another very good display on a stage he is making his own. 8 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
10. Lynden Gooch
His frustration was evident, perhaps too evident, in a first half where he seemed to have a running battle with the officials. Parkinson must have been considering a change but Gooch seized his moment with a composed and absolutely crucial finish. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
11. Charlie Wyke
Battled hard in tough conditions early on and helped open the floodgates with a fine through ball that allowed Maguire to cross for Gooch. Got a deserved goal seconds later with a composed finish. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
12. Antoine Semenyo
Another exciting cameo, with one lovely turn and cross at the end that should have yielded a goal. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
