A much-improved Bolton side almost ran out victors courtesy of Jack Hobbs’ second-half strike, only for Aiden McGeady’s late penalty to ruin their party and ensure the spoils were shared. And following the stalemate our Sunderland AFC writer, Phil Smith, has dished out his player ratings – with some low marks awarded to some players. Scroll down and click through the pages to see who shone – and who struggled – at the University of Bolton Stadium:
5. George Dobson - 5
Won the late penalty as he burst into the box but lacked composure in the middle of midfield. 5 Photo: FRANK REID
6. Grant Leadbitter - 6
Tried to keep his side composed and played a couple of very good crossfield passes that almost produced an opening. Set pieces should have yielded a goal but the finishing was poor. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
7. Lynden Gooch - 5
Lacked composure in possession and though he drew a fine save from Matthews in the closing stages, looked short of his best in the final third. 5 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
8. Aiden McGeady - 6
Bounced back from his penalty miss on Tuesday night well with an emphatic effort to rescue a point late on. Had drawn a fine save from Matthews earlier on what had been a frustrating afternoon for him in the final third. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
