Sunderland were one of several clubs who were credited with interest in Hibernian full-back Josh Doig in January.

Leeds and Stoke were also linked with the 18-year-old, who has made 24 SPL appearances for Jack Ross’ Hibs side this season.

Even so, the teenager says he’s happy with his development at Easter Road.

“I absolutely adore it here at Hibs. You can see with the likes of John McGinn … I know Hibs is a great pathway to go to higher places, but it is still a massive club in itself,” Doig told our sister title The Edinburgh Evening News.

“I don’t think there’s a better place than Hibs to develop as a player. I know that myself as I have come on so much. Being here is good for me.”

Stockley wants Charlton move

Elsewhere in the League One striker Jayden Stockley says he would like to make a permanent move to Charlton.

The 27-year-old joined the Addicks on loan from Preston in January, when Sunderland and Hull were reportedly interested.

Stockley has scored eight goals in 22 League One appearances for Charlton and is keen to extend his stay at The Valley.

“What I can say is I absolutely am loving my time here. And this hopefully isn’t the end of my time playing for Charlton,” Stockley told The Sun.

"If it works for everyone, I would love it. I feel I have so much to give and these are my prime years.”

Charlie Wyke gossip

Finally, former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie says Charlie Wyke would be a good signing for Celtic.

The Sunderland frontman will be out of contract this summer and has been linked with several clubs.

Hendrie told This Is Football: “I mean, that’d be a massive, massive signing, a massive move for him.

“Celtic have got a big rebuild structure that they have to do. I watched the game against Rangers and they were miles off it. The difference from Celtic to Rangers is just outrageous at the moment.”
