Rangers consider move for former Sunderland player who left in 2020 - report

According to Football Insider, Steven Gerrard's Scottish Premiership leaders are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, but could face competition from Motherwell for his signature.

It is understood that the Fir Park club have already made contact with Robson’s current club Blackpool over a potential transfer, but the Gers are said to be very much in the race for his services.

The versatile midfielder left Sunderland for the Tangerines on a free transfer last summer, but has since gone on to establish himself as a key member of Neil Critchley’s squad.

The former Black Cats has made 23 appearances across all competitions this term, including 16 outings in League One.

His current deal at Bloomfield Road is set to expire in 2022, but Blackpool have the option to extend his contract for an extra year if they choose to.

Despite his impressive start to life with the Tangerines, however, it is understood that Motherwell in particular would be looking to wrap up a deal for the player today. Rangers could yet make a move depending on how the situation develops.

Robson endured a stop-start senior career with boyhood club Sunderland, amassing just 14 first team appearances before leaving on a permanent basis at the end of last season.

During his time at the Stadium of Light, he also spent spells out on loan with Grimsby Town and Dundee.

As a result of the latter stint, the midfielder already has 13 career Scottish Premiership appearances to his name, the most recent of which came in May 2019.
