Premier League's most valuable starting XI and where Sunderland players rank

Who are the most valuable Sunderland players according to the transfer experts?

Sunderland have established themselves as dangerous opposition throughout the first half of the Premier League season and have picked up some outstanding results against some of the biggest names at the top level of English football.

From the moment the Black Cats marked their return to the top flight with a comfortable home win against West Ham United, Regis Le Bris’ side have looked more than comfortable at the highest level and will head into Saturday’s home game with Crystal Palace sitting just three points adrift of the top five. After collecting 11 points from their opening six games of the season, Sunderland suffered a first defeat of the campaign at Manchester United - but they bounced back by claiming stunning wins against the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United, as well as securing hard-earned points against Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool over the last two months.

Although there was a minor setback with last week’s defeat at Brentford, the mood surrounding Wearside is understandably positive as Le Bris and his players look to continue impressing and pushing towards the top six throughout the second half of the season. A number of the Sunderland squad have caught the eye with some excellent performances in recent weeks and months and there is no doubt the Black Cats are benefitting from an ambitious summer transfer window with several additions capturing the eye.

Summer signings Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki and Academy of Light graduate Chris Rigg are rated as the highest valued players within Le Bris’ squad according to the transfer experts at TransferMarkt - but they miss out on a place in the Premier League’s most valuable eleven. So who makes the cut and what is the value of players within the Sunderland squad?

Diarra was a player that Leeds themselves wanted to sign in the summer but not at the Sunderland club-record £30m fee needed to get him from Strasbourg. The 21-year-old has been out since September after suffering a groin injury in training but Diarra was still named in Senegal’s squad for the African Cup of Nations and will link up with his national team once he completes his rehabilitation at the Academy of Light.placeholder image
