Portsmouth v Sunderland: Join our interactive Watch Party for huge promotion clash

Sunderland face a massive test of their promotion credentials on Tuesday night – and we want you to join us in hopefully cheering the Lads to victory.

Tuesday, 9th March 2021, 2:00 pm

Games involving Sunderland and Portsmouth have been huge affairs in recent years (don’t mention Wembley!) and this one is no different, with both sides in the League One play-off picture and still aiming for a top two finish and automatic promotion.

It would normally be a rowdy affair, with a packed Fratton Park providing a brilliant atmosphere for both home and away fans, but we can’t even meet in a pub let alone the stadium due to lockdown restrictions.

So we’ve decided to bring the fan experience to you instead. We are hosting a Watch Party with our journalists and supporters watching the game together virtually, providing some humour, reaction and insight into the clash.

Portsmouth v Sunderland Watch Party

We’ll be going live to Echo’s chief football writer Phil Smith live at Fratton Park for his take and analysis throughout the game, and back in the ‘studio’ we have James Copley, Graham Falk, Melissa Johnson plus a handful of Pompey fans and journalists giving their take on how the contest is going while enjoying a refreshment or two.

And we want to get you involved. Send your comments or messages on social media using the hashtag #SAFCWATCH. We’ll be live here from with our new chat function, at the top of this page and also on our Facebook and Twitter pages from 7.30pm tonight (Tuesday, March 9) with all the team news, build-up and fun.
