Sunderland have had a renewed focus on signing young prospects from across the globe with players like Jewison Bennette joining the set-up on Wearside. With the World Cup on the horizon, Sunderland may use this tournament to scout some stars of the future as they continue their aim of exploiting the South American market.
But which youngsters could impress this winter? And should Sunderland look to sign any of these stars for the future should they excel in Qatar?
With that in mind, here, we take a look at some players that Sunderland could look to sign following the tournament - and four that Black Cats fans may want to track their progress during the showpiece event, despite there being little hope of them ending up on Wearside.

. Jeremy Sarmiento (Ecuador)
Sarmiento plays as an attacking midfielder for Brighton and Hove Albion and has made just three first-team appearances this season - grabbing an assist in the Seagulls’ Carabao Cup win over Arsenal. The 20-year-old moved to the Premier League from Benfica last summer and with Brighton’s fantastic record in the transfer market, Sarmiento would certainly be one to watch at the World Cup. . Moises Caicedo (Ecuador)
If Sunderland supporters wanted to track Sarmiento’s progress during the tournament, then they might want to keep one eye on his club and country teammate Caicedo. The all-action yet stylish midfielder has been one of the breakout stars of this Premier League season and has been linked with moves to some of European football’s biggest clubs. Photo: Alex Grimm

9. Ethan Ampadu (Wales)
Hopes have been high for Ampadu throughout his career, but he has never seemed to hit the heights his talent promises. He is currently on-loan from Chelsea at Italian side Spezia but will represent Wales in Qatar. His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of next season and may be someone Championship clubs look towards if they feel a ‘cut price’ deal can be negotiated with the Blues in summer. 10. Dylan Levitt (Wales)
Levitt is another Welshman that could be set for a return to England if he impresses in Qatar this winter. Levitt joined Dundee United on a permanent basis this summer after impressing whilst on-loan from Manchester United. He has continued this form into the new season with the midfielder registering three goals and an assist in the SPL this season. Named as Dundee United’s Fan’s Player of the Year last term, it may take a lot for the Black Cats to tempt him from Scotland however. Photo: Martin Rose

11. Jude Bellingham (England)
Bellingham could be one of the stars of the tournament and has clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid linked with a potential future transfer. However, Sunderland fans may take an interest in Bellingham’s style of play with brother Jobe linked with a move to the Stadium of Light in the summer. Although a move for Jobe is still unlikely, it could give Black Cats fans a glimpse into what they may be able to expect from the Birmingham City youngster should a move to Wearside ever materialise.
