Goals from Will Grigg, Tom Flanagan and George Dobson, the latter two coming in the space of three second half minutes, capped a remarkable turnaround after the Black Cats had fallen behind. Sunderland boss Jack Ross made eight changes in total but SAFC proved more than a match for the top flight side.

9. George Dobson.
Battled hard in the first half and found another gear in the second. Scored a fine goal and then rattled into challenges all over the park, winning the ball back on countless occasions. Tremendous desire. 8 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
10. Luke O'Nien
Fantastic energy and was a menace for Burnley in the second half. Lacked composure at times but played a fine pass for the third goal. 7 Photo: FRANK REID
11. Will Grigg
Absolutely tireless in his application, running himself into the ground as he chased balls into the channel and tried to hold the ball up. Rewarded with a touch of fortune as Drinkwater turned a pass straight to his feet, but the finish was of the highest quality. 7 Photo: FRANK REID

Occupied the defenders and offered an outlet as Sunderland saw out the game. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
