Sunderland fell behind in the first half when Jake Hastie’s cross deflected into the visitors’ net off Ellis Taylor.
The Black Cats drew level on the stroke of half-time when Jack Diamond was brought down in the box and Elliot Embleton converted from the penalty spot.
Alex Neil’s side will now prepare for their Championship opener against Coventry at the Stadium of Light.

Put in a real shift in an unfamiliar striking role. Pressed the Hartlepool defenders and that eventually drew the penalty. Never quite dropped for him to get the goal but was a threat and the work-rate impressive. 7 Photo: Frank Reid
