The four League matchdays since our last instalment of the power rankings have seen teams continue to show their inconsistency, impressive results often mixed with disappointing defeats. The promotion picture in particular remains remarkably difficult to call, with just five points separating Peterborough United in third from Doncaster Rovers down in twelfth. At the bottom, a handful of teams are beginning to settle into what will be a tough relegation scrap, managerial changes aplenty as the threat of League Two looms. Phil Smith runs you through it all……
5. 19. Tranmere Rovers (-2)
A timely win of ten-man MK Dons kept them just above the relegation zone but a thumping at Sunderland and a draw with Tranmere raised some concerns. They have shown plenty of character this season, though, and the hat-trick from Aston Villa loanee Rushian Hepburn-Murphy on Saturday may well help Micky Mellon find the firepower he needs for survival. 6. 18. Rochdale (+1)
Three defeats on the bounce but all against opposition that will expect to be near the promotion places at the top of the table. Consectutive wins over relegation rivals before that keeps Brian Barry-Murphy's side just ahead of the bottom pack but having played more games. Photo: George Wood
7. 17. AFC Wimbledon (+1)
The suspension and subsequent sacking of Wally Downes coincided with a remarkable upturn in form, powered mainly by a tremendous goalscoring run from Brentford loanee Marcus Forss. Glyn Hodges has deservedly been handed the chance to take charge for the long-term and though that initial surge has tailed off slightly, leaving plenty of hard work on the horizon, but they have remained difficult to beat in the main. 8. 16. Lincoln City (-2)
A dominant win over Sunderland and the superb performances of attacking players such as Bruno Andrade offered plenty of promise for new manager Michael Appleton. Results since then have been underwhelming, though, and the table is just beginning to look a little precarious. Have more than enough talent ot get out of danger but the play-off places are drifting well into the distance. Photo: Michael Steele
