While Parkinson was giving little away in terms of his team selection ahead of the Burton Albion game on Tuesday night, the Sunderland boss says he has been impressed with the attitude of the 19-year-old, fresh from his late equalising goal against Coventry City.

The squad was back in for training on Sunday at the Academy of Light and Kimpioka again caught the eye.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Parkinson said: “Benji made a good contribution to the game, he was ideal to bring on late on.”

Asked if he was ready to start, Parkinson added: “He is doing everything he can to push himself into our thoughts. He just has to keep knocking on the door. He trained well yesterday, he is doing everything he can."
