Phil Parkinson reveals triple-boost for Sunderland ahead of Carlisle game

Sunderland will be boosted by the return of Chris Maguire, Max Power and George Dobson for the EFL Trophy game against Carlisle United tonight.

Dobson has completed a three-game ban after being given his marching orders in the opening day draw with Bristol Rovers, while Power and Maguire both missed the draw with Charlton Athletic through injury.

All three are available for selection tonight for the 7pm kick-off at the Stadium of Light.

A number of younger players are also set to be handed a start in the EFL Trophy game, Sunderland head into the match on the back of the opening group game, an 8-1 victory over Aston Villa Under-21s.

Parkinson said: “I’m pleased for George because it’s been very frustrating for him.

“It’s great to have him back because he’s a good player and a good character.

“Max had a slight hamstring problem, but it wasn’t too serious, and he’s another one that needs some time.

“Chris was close to being fit for the weekend, but we decided not to take him, so he’s available for tonight as well.

“When you have options, you don’t need to force players back and you can make sure those little niggly injuries don’t become longer-term.

“It’s good to have them available for selection, as once we come back for the Swindon game, we go into a busy schedule.”
