It was revealed ahead of the goalless draw with Doncaster Rovers that the midfielder had suffered a setback in his comeback from a serious hamstring problem.

Embleton has not featured since the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United.

It was his second major hamstring problem, after suffering a similar problem on loan at Grimsby Town last season, bringing his hugely successful loan to a premature end.

Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson.

Parkinson provided an update following the goalless draw with Doncaster Rovers.

Parkinson said: “Unfortunately he has suffered a setback, which is a real shame because he had done a lot of work on the training ground and came back into full training this week.

“It is not a major setback but enough to keep him out for a couple more weeks.”
