Papa John's in Sunderland runs out of pizza after the Black Cats win at Wembley
Papa John’s in Sunderland has seen a surge in demand after Sunderland’s win at Wembley.
So much so, that the store on Newcastle Road has sold-out of pizza just hours after the triumph!
The Black Cats won at the national stadium in the Papa John’s Trophy Final courtesy of Lynden Gooch’s second half strike, as they sealed a 1-0 win in what was their first Wembley triumph since 1973.
They overcame a stubborn Tranmere side, who were a threat throughout what was a largely cagey contest.
And fans of the club have flocked to the tournament sponsor after the game for their Sunday evening takeaway, so much so that the store – which was re-named Papa Lee’s after head coach Lee Johnson as part of a promotional campaign ahead of the game – has now sold-out of pizza!
In a tweet, the tournament account said: “BREAKING: Papa Lee's has officially of pizza! The @SunderlandAFC effect!”
