Sunderland will be looking to bring another goalkeeper in but who could they turn to? We assess some of the options that Phil Parkinson could consider this summer.
McLaughlin quickly established himself as the club’s No1 keeper and a firm fan favourite too and is exit came as a big blow ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, though there is no date yet when that will start.
1. Jack Bonham
Arguably one of the most impressive stoppers in League One this term, Bonham has proved a key cog in Gillingham's climb up the table and could be on the radar of a host of clubs this summer. He has a year left on his contract, but could be prised away from Priestfield. Photo: BEN STANSALL
2. Lee Nicholls
MK Dons have been indebted to Nicholls on numerous occasions this term. The former Wigan Athletic man is out of contract this summer, too. Photo: Pete Norton
3. Ben Alnwick
Currently a free agent, Alnwick spent time training with the Black Cats earlier this season. He's no stranger to the club, or to Phil Parkinson - who managed the stopper during his time at Bolton Wanderers. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
4. Owen Evans
League Two's standout stopper this year, Evans has excelled during a loan spell at Cheltenham Town. If he finds game time at parent club Wigan hard to come by, a loan move to League One next season could prove appealing. Photo: Pete Norton
