Reports suggest Campbell – who applied last time following Jack Ross’ sacking – is keen to replace Phil Parkinson and has been interviewed for the role this week.

CaughtOffside claim the former Arsenal, Spurs and England defender was interviewed for the job on Wednesday.

Danny Cowley remains the favourite to take charge with Paul Cook, Lee Johnson and Daniel Stendel also in the running.

Meanwhile, Football Insider report Sunderland are in talks with Birmingham City’s Kristjaan Speakman to become the club’s new technical director.

As part of a restructure at Sunderland – with several key positions still unfilled – Sunderland are looking to bring in a new technical/sporting director.

Speakman has been at Birmingham for 14 years and if appointed would head up recruitment at Sunderland AFC.
