'Warrior' - New Sunderland signing Kevin Danso has this brilliant message for SAFC fans

New Sunderland signing Kevin Danso has been reflecting on his move to Wearside.

New Sunderland signing Kevin Danso has described himself as a ‘warrior’.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who has joined on an initial season-long loan from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, made 128 appearances for RC Lens and 52 for Spurs. An Austria international, Danso has earned 36 caps and he brings a wealth of experience to the squad.

Reflecting on his move to Sunderland, Danso told the club website: “It feels amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. Growing up in England, Sunderland has a rich Premier League history and I’m so excited to be a part of that journey.

“I hope I can bring my experience to the group and help the lads both on and off the pitch. First and foremost, I’d describe myself as a warrior. I’m someone who gives everything for the team and I want to bring that mentality here. I know we have European football this season, and anything is possible. The sky is the limit, and we want to see how far we can go.”

He added: “I’ve played against a number of the squad in different countries and in the Premier League, and I’m looking forward to meeting them. I know Florent well from our time together at Lens, so that was an important factor in my decision to come here. Now I’m just excited to meet everyone, get settled and start working with the team.”

Director of Football Florent Ghisfolfi, who signed Danso for Ligue 1 club RC Lens, said the defender would bring ‘strength and character’ to the squad for the season ahead. The Austria international is a Europa League winner with Spurs and brings significant top-level experience to the Sunderland squad, as well as increased competition for places in defensive positions.

“Kevin is a player I know very well from my time working with him at RC Lens,” Ghisolfi said. “He will bring strength, character and know-how to the squad, and vast experience of playing in domestic and European competitions. We’re thrilled to add him to the squad for a historic season in Sunderland AFC’s history.”
