Middlesbrough 'transfer list' star as 'surprising' Leeds United verdict issued
All the latest news surrounding Sunderland and their Championship rivals as the Black Cats look to nail down their new manager.
Sunderland finally look to be closing in on a new boss after months without a full-time manager. The Black Cats have failed to land a full-time replacement for Michael Beale in the weeks following the Championship season, with reported targets coming and going.
It now looks as though former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior will be the man to take charge at the Stadium of Light, and he will face big expectations from the start, well aware of the merry-go-round of bosses that precedes him at the club. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the rest of the Championship clubs.
Boro make sale decision
Middlesbrough will reportedly look to sell Anfernee Dijksteel this summer. According to The Northern Echo, the experienced right-back has been deemed surplus to requirements as Michael Carrick looks to put together a promotion charge next season.
Dijksteel made 20 league appearances for Boro last season, but he will now be looking for a new club this summer, according to reports, with Luke Ayling having been signed on a permanent deal from Leeds United.
Scales on Idah
Celtic star Liam Scales has called upon his club to wrap up a permanent deal for Norwich City star Adam Idah, who impressed during a loan spell at Parkhead in the second half of last season.
Scales told Paul O’Hehir: “100% I want him to stay. Every Celtic fan and everyone at the club would love to have him back. He was outstanding but a lot of things have to go right for that to happen but hopefully it will.”
Palmer on Cresswell rumours
Carlton Palmer says he is surprised by reports claiming Leeds United want to offload Charlie Cresswell this summer. He told Football League World: “Leeds United are bracing themselves for another season in the Championship after failing to win promotion via the play-offs. They hit 90 points for the season, which ordinarily would see you promoted to the Premier League, but unfortunately they didn’t and lost out to Southampton in the play-off final.
"Surprisingly, one player they’re prepared to listen to offers for is centre-back Charlie Cresswell, who is 21. Leeds did have one of the best defensive records in the Championship last season, but it’s still a surprise given that Cresswell is still only 21 and has proven that he can play at Championship level after a successful loan spell at Millwall where he acquitted himself very well.
“So it’s surprising that Leeds are listening to offers, and the asking price is £3million, plus add-ons, so there will be several Championship clubs in for him, plus teams in France and Germany. I’m a little bit surprised by it, but I’m a big advocate of Daniel Farke, and he knows what he’s doing. They had a very good defensive record last season, and Cresswell only made seven appearances for the Whites last season, so they must feel that what they’ve got is adequate in those areas.
“Given his age and his talent, I’m a little surprised that Leeds United will listen to offers and let him go, but from the player’s point of view, seven games a season is not sufficient, and he wants to play. Maybe it’s a conversation between him and the club that it’s better for him to move on and get playing time. I’m sure Leeds will ask for a buyback clause and a sell-on fee when he leaves."
