Middlesbrough fans have shown their support for former midfielder Grant Leadbitter – after the Sunderland captain took a step back from football.

Fans of both the Black Cats and Born were quick to send their well wishes to the 34-year-old – with Middlesbrough supporters now showing their backing of the midfielder in a fantastic way.

Ahead of their Championship clash with Luton Town, Middlesbrough fans unfurled a series of banners dedicated to Leadbitter.

They read: “Tough times don’t last. We’re with you Grant.”

Supporters also chanted: “He's magic you know, just watch Leadbitter go."

The popular midfielder spent seven years at the Riverside Stadium before returning to his boyhood club, Sunderland, last January.

He has racked-up almost 150 appearances at the Stadium of Light during his illustrious career.
