Max Power has sent a classy message to Sunderland fans after the midfielder sealed a return to former club Wigan Athletic.

The 27-year-old moved to Wearside from the Latics in the summer of 2018 and went on to make 136 appearances.

He was captain when Lee Johnson’s side lifted the Papa John’s Trophy at Wembley in March but was released after the Black Cats failed to claim League One promotion at the third time of asking.

Nevertheless, Power still holds Sunderland fans in high regard, as he looks forward to visiting the Stadium of Light as an opposition player next season.

“A special mention to all Sunderland supporters,” Power said via his official Twitter account.

"I’ve had so many great messages wishing me all the best and the feeling is mutual.

"The good times will come again and I’m already looking forward to hearing the famous Roker Roar next season.”
