Sunderland transfer news: League One rivals in for Black Cats man, Ex-trialist set to seal move

Sunderland look to have wrapped up their January transfer business already.

A move for Ross County’s Ross Stewart over the weekend capped a positive month for the Black Cats, but there is still one big outgoing that could be in the offing.

Will Grigg has been linked with an exit for some time now, and MK Dons have emerged as a potential destination for the Northern Irishman.

Despite previously suggesting that they were not interested in the 29-year-old, the Dons are now understood to be firmly in the race for the player after confirming their intention to pursue a deal, as per the Milton Keynes Citizen.

Shrewsbury Town had previously been linked with a move for Grigg, but it now looks as if that swoop has been hijacked by their League One rivals.

The forward has spent time in Milton Keynes before, scoring 22 goals in 50 outings during a loan spell between 2014 and 2015.

Elsewhere, former Black Cats trialist Liam Burt looks to be headed to Irish side Bohemians, as per the Daily Record.

The 22-year-old was released by Celtic last year, and has been a free agent ever since, spending some time in the north east and with Barnsley.

A Scotland youth international, Burt scored three times for the Tykes in pre-season before arriving on Wearside in September, but failed to secure a permanent deal at the Stadium of Light.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, we’ve gathered the rest of this afternoon’s League One rumours below:
