Just ten points separate Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe int he second automatic promotion spot, from Rochdale all the way down in 17th. That Brian Barry-Murphy’s side were able to arrest a worrying run of form with a crucial win at the weekend underlined just what an unpredictable division this continues to be. In the two matchdays since our last instalment of the power rankings, there have also been a number of managerial developments that will no doubt have repercussions for the rest of the campaign...
9. 15. Shrewsbury Town (No change)
Not in action on Saturday, having secured a valuable away win at Tranmere the week before, controlling the contest and keeping a crucial clean sheet. Photo: Catherine Ivill
10. 14. Lincoln City (-1)
An excellent win on home turf for new boss Michael Appleton on home turf, showcasing the pace in his attacking ranks. A trip to face Peterborough United always looked a tough one and they battled well for most of the game before conceding two late goals. The form for a period of time has been worrying but Appleton has made a decent impression to begin with. Photo: Stu Forster
11. 14. Burton Albion (-1)
Not in action at the weekend but thumped MK Dons in a convincing 3-0 win the week previous. Liam Boyce scored a brace and youngster Oliver Sarkic continued his impressie form. Have looked in good order all season, just lacking consistency to push themselves towards the top six. Photo: Clive Mason
12. 12. Portsmouth (+4)
Kenny Jackett has steadied the ship to an extent, with four points from six. A win away at Doncaster Rovers saw them ride their luck, before the stalemate at home with Gillingham. Defensively they are improving, though there remain major concerns about their form at the other end. John Marquis still has just one league goal and was dropped to the bench on Saturday. They have stabilised from their early struggles but have a lot ot prove before they can be considered realistic promotion contenders. Photo: Bryn Lennon
