Neighbours Newcastle United start their Premier League campaign at home to Arsenal on August 11 - meaning Jack Ross’ men will likely travel away during the same weekend, with Northumbria Police keen to avoid any clash.

So Sunderland will play their opening League One match at the Stadium of Light?

The EFL season begins a week earlier than the Premier League on August 2 and 3 - which means Sunderland are likely to kick off the new campaign at home on the opening day.

What about the festive period?

If you love spending time at the SoL over Christmas then you’re in luck as Newcastle travel to Old Trafford on Boxing Day to face Manchester United, meaning Jack Ross’ side will play at home.

However, Newcastle will be at St James’s Park on December 28 and January 1 - so Sunderland are set to be on the road for both matches. Blackpool away again, anyone?

What about Easter?

No real indication. Newcastle are at home to West Ham on Easter Saturday (11th) but Sunderland will play on Good Friday (10th) and Easter Monday (13th) so will have one game at home and another on the road.
