The 19-year-old right-back came on as a second half substitute for the Black Cats in July's pre-season friendly between the sides at Mariners Park.

He has now joined the Shields ranks as Lee Picton and Graham Fenton move to strengthen their squad going into a busy run of fixtures.

Picton said: "We are delighted to bring Jordan into the squad for an initial one-month loan.

"He is a player we have watched on a number of occasions and we feel he will strengthen our squad heading into a period when we will play a lot of games in a short period of time.

"We know from watching Jordan play that he has the right attributes to fit really well into our squad and we look forward to working with him over at least the next month."

Hunter - formerly of Liverpool's academy - is expected to be eligible to make his debut in Tuesday's league fixture against Ashton United at Mariners Park.

Jack Ross has revealed in today’s Echo that other younger players are also set for loan moves this month.

He added: “There are others, like Jack Diamond and Jake Hackett, Jack Bainbridge, all of those at the higher end of the U23s, they need to go out on loan and benefit from that.

“We’ve seen that it helps players and they’re the ones who would benefit most from it and would be the ones that could potentially go out between now and the end of the month.”
