Maddison, who was linked with a move to Sunderland during pre-season, has a £2.5million release clause in his contract and has been tracked by several Championship clubs.

MacAnthony took to Twitter on Monday and posted: “Marcus Maddison Update - As of this morning @theposhofficial has accepted a bid from @CAFCofficial who have permission to talk terms with the player. 2 other championship clubs have bid for the player multiple times & do not currently have permission to speak to the player.”

Latest Will Grigg reports

Another player who could be on the move this month is Sunderland striker Will Grigg, according to reports.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has claimed League Two clubs Swindon Town and Salford City are both trying to sign the striker on loan.

Sunderland splashed out £3million for Grigg last January but his time on Wearside has been a disappointment.

League One side Blackpool have also been credited with an interest in the striker.

Former defender moves on

Finally, former Sunderland defender Laurens De Bock has joined Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag on loan from Leeds United.

The left-back was recently recalled from a loan spell with the Black Cats after making 10 senior appearances for the Wearsiders.
