Sunderland thrashed Southampton 5-0 at the Stadium of Light to claim their second league win of the season.
Tony Mowbray’s side made an electric start as goals from Jack Clarke and Pierre Ekwah put them two goals ahead inside seven minutes.

Hide AdEkwah then added a third with a long-range strike on the stroke of half-time, before Bradley Dack netted a fourth shortly after the interval.
Finally, Chris Rigg put the icing on the cake with fifth goal in stoppage-time by heading home Jewison Bennette’s cross.

This time Holgate tried his luck from distance with a low effort which Patterson couldn’t hold.
Thankfully for the Sunderland keeper he was able to turn the ball around the post.
56’ O’Nien with a speculative effort
That would have been a goal of the season contender after O’Nien controlled the ball from midway inside the Southampton half after a Sunderland corner before hitting a volley onto the roof of the net.
Clarke then charged forward again before drawing a low save from Bazunu inside the box.

Ballard is down after a clash inside the Sunderland box.
The defender needed treatment but is back up now.

Cirkin charged down the left and delivered a low cross which Dack met with a header, forcing a save from Bazunu.
Sunderland then kept the move alive before Ba sent a low delivery across the box from the right and Dack converted from close range.
