Sunderland were beaten 2-1 by Swansea at the Stadium of Light – but how did each player fare for the Black Cats?

Mike Dodds’ side fell a goal down in the 19th minute when Swans winger Ronald opened the scoring. The Brazilian then netted his second of the match nine minutes later, while the visitors could have scored more in the first half. Luke O’Nien managed to pull a goal back for Sunderland 13 minutes from time but it was too little too late.

Here's how the game played out:

What to make of those sides

So it's four changes for Sunderland following last weekend’s match at Birmingham.

Jenson Seelt, Abdoullah Ba and Nazariy Rusyn return to the starting XI, while Callum Styles will make his Black Cats debut.

It looks like it could be a back three, with Styles and Hume as the wing-backs. Jack Clarke drops out of the squad with an injury, while Dan Ballard is suspended. Romaine Mundle and Mason Burstow drop to the bench, where they are joined by 18-year-old full-back Thomas Lavery.

Here come the players!

Ready to go...

2' How Sunderland have started

Out of possession it looks like Sunderland are playing with a back five, with Styles and Hume as the wing-backs.

When Sunderland have the ball, Styles is moving into midfield, with Hjelde shifting over to left-back, while Bellingham is taking up a central striker's position, with Rusyn moving to the right.

9' Swansea seeing more of the ball

Swansea have seen more of the ball so far and made a few attacks down the left through Placheta.

There is space for Sunderland's forward players to run in behind the visitors' backline.

12' Over from Rusyn

That was better from Sunderland after Styles played a dinked forward pass to Rusyn in the Swansea box.

The forward hit his effort over the bar from an angle, while under pressure from Wood.

Sunderland are seeing more of the ball now but have given a few loose passes away.

Ronald just broke down Swansea's right but overhit his cross.

That was a better passing move from Sunderland as Neil and Bellingham combined.

Ba then cut in from the left but his effort was straight at the keeper.
