Sunderland have started with a back four of Johnson, Batth, Triantis and Huggins.

Neil and Rigg are in midfield, with Taylor on the right and Ba on the left.

Pritchard is operating just behind Bennette up front.

Sunderland have just won the first corner of the game after Taylor cut in from the right, before his shot was deflected over the bar for a corner.

Triantis then met Pritchard’s corner and there were appeals for handball against the Crewe defender. Nothing given.

Sunderland have controlled possession so far with Crewe sitting deep in a 5-3-2 formation.

11’ Miskick from Bishop

Crewe have just had their first corner of the match after Triantis knocked the ball back to Bishop and the Sunderland keeper skewed his clearance, sending the ball behind for a corner.

From the following set-piece the ball dropped to Baker-Richardson who sent a low shot wide.

Powell is shown the first yellow card of the match after bringing down Johnson on Sunderland’s right.

Pritchard’s free-kick then dropped to Rigg on the edge of the box whose effort was deflected wide.

Now Batth has been booked for a foul on Tracey on the edge of Sunderland’s box.

Powell took the subsequent free-kick and curled his low shot against the post.

20’ Taylor wins a corner

Taylor did well to win a corner there when there were three Crewe players around him on the right.

Sunderland played the corner short before the move fizzled out.

26’ Triantis not happy

Triantis felt he was fouled there after Crewe played a long ball forward.

The Sunderland defender got to the ball ahead of Baker-Richardson on the left before being dispossessed.

Triantis thought he was fouled before Crewe won a corner.

Sunderland managed to clear.
