Stewart Donald has provided a Sunderland takeover and transfer update

Donald, who took control of the club last summer, is set to finalise a deal to sell a chunk of his shareholding to a consortium led by businessman Mark Campbell.

Campbell is thought to be leading a four-man consortium - of which two have strong links to Sunderland.

And reports had suggested that Campbell and his backers were set to pocket a 74% stake in the Black Cats - leaving Donald and fellow co-owner Juan Sartori with 10% apiece and Charlie Methven with a 6% share.

That led many to question how Donald would be involved in the club moving forward, but he has now moved to ease fears that he will depart the club - while also confirming that he will hold more than the 10% stake that has been reported.

In a response to a fan on Twitter, the Sunderland owner said: "I will be here next season and many beyond - with more than the reported 10 percent Stake!!"

And Donald also provided a transfer update, with the Black Cats yet to make a move in the summer transfer window.

Reece James' departure to Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday highlighted the need for new recruits in certain areas - and Donald believes it won't be long until deals are finalised.

He posted: "hopefully some signings soon but not tomorrow [Thursday] - won’t be long till new players arrive I’m sure."
