Rotherham vs Sunderland

What to make of those sides

So it's one change for Sunderland following their 1-0 win over Hull on Boxing Day.

Adil Aouchiche comes into the starting XI in place of the injured Bradley Dack, while Aji Alese returns to the squad for the first time this season.

Jewison Bennette is also back on the bench for the first time since October.

Rotherham have made one change following their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough last time out, with Sam Clucas replacing Oliver Rathbone.

The hosts have only named six substitutes.

Not long to go

For the last time in 2023

2' Bellingham up front

As expected, Bellingham has started the game up front with Aouchiche just behind him.

Seelt is at right-back, with Hume on the left side of defence.

5' Early run from Clarke

Rotherham have started with a back 5 in a 5-3-2 system so could be difficult to break down.

Clarke has just made a run inside from the left but ran into traffic before taking a heavy touch.

8' Sunderland seeing more of the ball

As expected, Sunderland are seeing more of the ball, with Rotherham defending in a mid-block.

Neil was released down the left there but over hit his cross, with no one to really pick out in the box.

Roberts has gone down and has signaled to be substituted.

Ba is warming up.

Roberts' night is over as Ba takes his place.

The former was able to walk around the pitch after being withdrawn but has headed straight down the tunnel.

That was a decent effort from Neil on the edge of Rotherham's box after Clarke cut in from the left.

The midfielder's shot was well hit but went just wide.
