The Black Cats took a first-half lead when Abdoullah Ba set up Jack Clarke to score his 13th goal of the season with an excellent strike.

Ipswich drew level before the interval, though, when the ball deflected into the path of Kayden Jackson to score. Conor Chaplin then headed home the hosts’ winning goal 15 minutes from time when he was left unmarked to convert Leif Davis’ free-kick.

Here's how the game played out:

Ipswich vs Sunderland

14' Huge block from O'Nien

Burns and Davis are staying very wide when Ipswich have the ball.

The hosts managed to work the ball to Burns on the right there, whose low cross found Taylor, who then saw a low shot blocked by O'Nien inside the Sunderland box.

19' Wide from Jackson

Ipswich have looked dangerous when they've got the ball into the final third.

This time Jackson sends a low shot wide from inside the Sunderland box, with O'Nien just going enough to put the striker off.

22' Sunderland struggling to get the ball forward

Sunderland are seeing more of the ball now but are struggling to get it into the final third, with a few passes going astray as the visitors try to play through midfield.

Harry Clarke is shown the first yellow card after a late tackle on Bellingham near the halfway line.

25' Clarke shot saved

That was better from Sunderland as Pritchard set up Clarke in the Ipswich box. His effort took a deflection before Hladky kept it out.

Sunderland lead!

Ipswich failed to fully clear Sunderland's corner before the ball dropped to Ba on the edge of the box.

The Frenchman then set up Clarke who curled the ball into the top corner from distance.

0-1.

28' Huge save from Patterson

Ipswich almost respond immediately as Harry Clarke breaks down the right and tests Patterson with a low effort across goal.

The keeper reacted well to keep it out.

Ipswich are level.

Chapman tried to play the ball out wide but it took an unfortunate deflection off Ekwah, sending it into Jackson's path.

The Ipswich striker was then one-on-one with Patterson and finished well. Sunderland players felt there was a handball earlier in the build-up.

40' Wide from Jackson

Ipswich have a bit of momentum just before half-time.

Burns managed to keep an attack alive by heading the ball back into the box there before Jackson sent a shot wide after spinning to get a shot off.

O'Nien is appealing after Pritchard whipped a free-kick into the Sunderland box and Ballard went down after challenging for the ball.

There didn't look to be a lot in it.

HALF-TIME: IPSWICH 1 SUNDERLAND 1

First-half thoughts from Portman Road.

SECOND HALF UNDER WAY!

Back under way.

46' Patterson called into action

Patterson is forced to make an early save to keep out Davis' long-range effort. It was straight at the Sunderland keeper.

51' Home fans not happy

The home fans aren't happy after Ballard went down easily in his own box to win a free-kick after a tangle with Jackson.

Sunderland then went up the other end and won a free-kick on the edge of Ipswich's box as Clarke was fouled by Taylor, who was then booked.

Pritchard curled his effort over the bar.

55' Ba and Edmundson booked

Ba is now shown a yellow card after telling the referee Edmundson should have been booked for a tackle on the Sunderland man.

The Ipswich defender was also booked.

That was a speculative effort from Ba which went over the crossbar from distance.

Burns is the latest player to be booked after pulling back Neil as the Sunderland midfielder advanced in the Ipswich half.

The game has become a bit scrappy since the restart.
