Gary Rowell: Denver Hume has Premier League potential and hopefully youngster can achieve ambitions with Sunderland

Back-to-back home wins in similar circumstances hasn’t done Sunderland’s promotion hopes any harm but I think Saturday’s win over Wycombe was a better one than the one against Lincoln.

Sunderland got a massive helping hand from a generous Lincoln defence who gifted two goals but Wycombe didn’t give Sunderland anything, they just couldn’t cope with a rampant Sunderland who started the game on fire and just blew them away.

The players didn’t take their foot off the gas in the second half - unlike against Lincoln - and deserved a fourth goal meaning our goal difference has improved massively and who knows how important that could be come May.

There were so many things to be excited about on Saturday and the change in mood around the Stadium of Light is now one of optimism thanks to two impressive home wins.

At both ends of the pitch Sunderland excelled with a clean sheet at one end and four goals at the other and you can’t get much better but I was also impressed with Max Power and George Dobson in between who are becoming a real partnership, their energy and industry is giving Sunderland a great platform.

Lynden Gooch is in the form of his life, producing his best spell since he joined the club as a youngster and even though he didn’t get on the scoresheet this week, he won the penalty and claimed an assist.

Another young player Denver Hume is getting better week-by-week, he is relishing the extra freedom three at the back gives him and if he continues to develop with his pace and potential he should be aiming to one day be a Premier League player, hopefully without having to change clubs.

Really though, every player deserves credit on Saturday, there was no weak link, a true team performance and long may it continue.
