Alim Ozturk on Bolton draw and why he believes Sunderland's form will improve
Alim Ozturk insists that Sunderland’s form will improve as they prepare for back-to-back away games against play-off chasing Doncaster Rovers and Fleetwood Town.
Sunderland suffered another frustrating afternoon against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, failing to win for the ninth successive game in all competitions.
The Black Cats have dropped to 15th in the League One table, the lowest position in their history.
Manager Phil Parkinson is under pressure with many supporters calling for change, the team dropping nine places since Jack Ross departed whilst exiting three cups.
Ozturk, however, insists that the players are enjoying his approach and says the results will turn.
“He is talking a lot with everyone, talking through how he wants to play,” Ozturk said.
“He does that a lot and I think that’s a good way. He’s got the experience and he has been calm in the way he has talked to people and done things.
“If we can win a couple of games it will be different. We’ve got enough experience in the dressing room and a lot of guys have played in this league before.
“We’ve said that in the dressing room that we are going to stick together and turn things around. It will happen. A few good results will change [the mood]. I trust the lads in the dressing room, they’re good guys and we’ll stick together.
“To be honest I think we played a good game, just the goal was missing. The results are not there but it will come.
“I think the last two games were an improvement, and we’ve had the time in training to work on how we want to play and improve. Just the goal was missing, and the goal from Tom Flanagan that was disallowed, it happened straight in front of me, it was an easy [soft] decision.”
Sunderland face a Doncaster side on Sunday fresh from a superb 3-0 win away at Peterborough United.
“Doncaster are a good side and away games are always tough, but I believe in the guys and that we will turn things around,” Ozturk said.
“I feel the win is coming and I hope it happens quickly for ourselves and the fans.”
