The Black Cats were beaten 1-0 at Priestfield, with Connor Ogilvie’s late strike sealing the three points – albeit in controversial circumstances after a late Charlie Wyke goal was disallowed.

And supporters were far from pleased, and here’s what they had to say on social media after another away defeat:

@Dyl164 said: “Never thought I’d see the day where Sunderland were a mid table (at best) league 1 side being played off the park by Gillingham. Absolute shambles.”

@RamseySAFC added: “Unpopular opinion: No one has played well, but Grigg has been our best player.”

@CllrCallaghan posted: “This season is an absolute write off already. #SAFC deserve so much better than Phil Parkinson and the absolute gutter management at the top of the club.”

@ColArmstrong tweeted: “Can we start playing our attacking football again Phil?”

@Laking86 commented: “I think I’d rather have a David Moyes manager, Howard Wilkinson DoF combination than what Parkinson is providing. Absolutely awful”

@Haynesy03 added: “Phil Parkinson has had 10 full days with this squad. Nothing has changed at all.”

@Ian_Crow3 said: “Pitiful that. Created nowt. Shocking defending. We lucky. They hit bar twice. One arguably over the line. Disgrace and it's getting worse every game.”

@tmalbrghtn tweeted: “Parkinsons had 10 days to sort this & the best he’s managed to come up with is doubling the number of strikers on the pitch who arent recieving any service.”

@LukeWrightson added: “Watching #safc is such a downer man, terrible.”

@SeaWeasil posted: “Within a year we've gone from the most dangerous team in the league, with huge support from neutrals due to our amazing fans and away attendance, to a bang average League 1 side. We are not what we used to be. But we can be. Need to turn this slump around.”

@CraigLisgo said: “Embarrassing once again, this club needs a lift from somewhere and it’s not incoming with these owners, manager or players”

@JLwest40 suggested: “Gona be a ghost town next week at the SOL if we dont turn it around”

@GD_45ARY added: “Absolute Garbage.......”
